I go to Plank regularly and can't say enough good things. The talented, attentive instructors and class variety have helped me to achieve my fitness and health goals in ways that are safe, effective, challenging, and fun. But it is more than simply a place to work out; it's a community. Plank is special.

I had religiously attended Sal Anthony's Movement Salon for combined reformer/Cadillac Pilates classes since 2009. I have scoliosis that impacts my daily life, so a good studio with great instructors was critical for my daily regimen. When they sadly shut their doors, I began searching for a new studio home when after several months and several disappointing alternate studio experiences, I stumbled across PF's Instagram ad. It took me a few months before I actually signed up because at this point, I had been without a decent studio and simply wasn't feeling great about myself.
When I first walked into Plank Fitness, I was greeted by this very cheerful gentleman who immediately introduced himself as Antoni and began peppering me with questions about how I was feeling, my background, and my overall goals. Suspicious at first, I begrudgingly partook in this dialogue and wondered what the classes would be like.
The first few classes were rough, just as starting anything new will be. I was out of shape, outside of my comfort zone, and still hesitant to believe that I had finally found a studio that would become my second home as I previously had.
Then a switch flipped. I began waking up (somewhat) naturally at 5:30am to excitedly, if not groggily, attend Antoni's 6:30am Tone It classes. The pain from my scoliosis began subsiding more and more, week after week. My posture began improving. My clothes became baggier. Most importantly, the exercises I had come to dread suddenly became less challenging and my reps increased along with my confidence. All of this happened in tandem with Antoni's positive encouragement and cheering me along every step of the way.
I joined Plank Fitness in June. In a very short six months' time, I have dropped inches and pounds without even realizing it (note, not because of dietary changes - hello, dark chocolate and scotch!) and have since canceled my membership to other studios with the relief of someone who has romantically courted another and finally feeling as though they've found "The One".
Some people believe in coincidence. I believe in energy. The positive energy that has come into my life since joining and committing myself to Plank Fitness has not only transformed my physical body (and now require a new wardrobe in a smaller size), but also my emotional and mental health which further impacts my outlook on life's daily challenges. Plank Fitness is not only a studio, it is a community and culture that will enhance every part of your life, if you allow it.
We all want to feel good about ourselves. Plank Fitness is a fitness solution that provides an environment of instructors who support, challenge, and encourage us to be an even better version of ourselves than we thought possible.

I am new to New York. We moved from Asia and I was never really a big city kind of person. Added to that, I had some pretty significant facial surgery for skin cancer when I arrived and the fact that I can’t work in my chosen profession in the US made everything harder. I found myself pretty lost, unfit, very overweight and really unhappy. There was an ever increasing disconnect between what I knew my body needed to be healthy and what I was doing (way too much binging of Netflix). Despite being in a caring profession, I had really had at least 5 years of decreasing self-care. I needed to change a lot of things in my life.
I often walked from the lower east side where we live to Chinatown for my beloved Asian cooking ingredients, which is how I came across Plank Fitness. I peered in the window a few times (sorry if you were in those classes) before I decided to give it a try. I have never been a fan of group classes. I was always a clock watcher in classes, counting down the minutes till the class was over. This habit, combined with a healthy dose of self-criticism of my fitness and abilities, had kept me away. I did, however, hope I would be able to commit to small classes. It seemed less daunting for me.
From the moment I stepped into Planet Fitness, I knew this was going to be the right place for me! There was an atmosphere of support and understanding. I have watched my body become healthier over the past months. I am stronger and much fitter. I am not a clock watcher anymore and enjoy all the classes I take. The small class sizes mean that any adjustments needed for individuals/injuries can happen so I have been able to go to class regularly without injuring myself.
I still can’t do the reverse dragon…but I am getting better. I have lost a load of weight (down 3 sizes) and finally feel happy in my life here.
I feel privileged to have found such a supportive group of people to teach and support me over the last 5 months.
I have always sought to surrounded myself with positive affirming people. I found some of my people at Plank Fitness.
I am trying to practice body kindness. Love your body for what it can do and what it does for you and nourish it. My addition to this dictum is then maximise what it can do with the team at Plank Fitness. Thanks guys!
